Kevin Martin’s journey in the IT world began in 1986 as a junior programmer for Avis Rental Cars. By 1992, he had transitioned into self-employment, working as an independent contractor and gaining invaluable industry insights. Over the next eight years, he refined his expertise in the timber sector, developing software solutions for Tasman Lumber.
In 1997, Kevin co-founded TimberSmart NZ alongside Darryl Nicolson. Their leadership propelled TimberSmart to become the premier software provider for the timber processing and wholesaling industry in New Zealand. Not one to rest on his laurels, Kevin expanded operations across the Tasman, launching TimberSmart Australia in 2000, where the company swiftly secured a dominant market position.
Among his many visionary contributions, Kevin pioneered TimberXchange, an innovative EDI portal that streamlines timber transactions, now facilitating over $40 million in transactions per month. His ability to anticipate industry needs and develop cutting-edge solutions has cemented his reputation as a leader in business technology.
Beyond TimberSmart, Kevin’s business acumen extends to his roles as Director of Business Boost and Harrier Sheds, where he continues to drive strategic growth and innovation.
When he’s not shaping the future of business technology, Kevin indulges in life’s finer pleasures—savoring the challenge of a perfectly played golf shot, riding the waves of the ocean while surfing, enjoying the challenges of a long run, and appreciating the art of a finely crafted wine or beer.
